LOME, April 25 (Xinhua) — President of the Council of Togo Faure Gnassingbe has met with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, who is on a diplomatic visit to Lome, according to a statement issued on Friday evening by the Presidency of the Council of Togo.

During the meeting on Thursday, the two sides conducted an in-depth review of bilateral cooperation, with particular emphasis on economic and trade partnership, said the Presidency of the Council.

The discussions also covered ways to strengthen joint efforts in mediation and security in Africa, as well as international issues, particularly the situation in the Middle East.

Barrot commended Togo’s mediation role in the Great Lakes region and highlighted concerns over developments in the Sahel region, while reaffirming France’s commitment to working with Togo to promote peace and stability on the African continent.

The two sides also discussed preparations for the upcoming Africa Forward Summit, scheduled for May 11-12, in Nairobi, Kenya. ■
