SINGAPORE, April 21 (Xinhua) — Singapore on Tuesday launched a new platform, OCEANS-X, at the opening ceremony of Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) 2026, aimed at enhancing maritime digital connectivity and supporting global trade flows.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Jeffrey Siow, Singapore’s Acting Minister for Transport and Senior Minister of State for Finance, announced the launch of OCEANS-X, a new data and Application Programming Interface (API) exchange platform developed by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Siow said the platform will facilitate data exchange between regulators, port operators, shipping lines, and international partners, so that different maritime systems are interoperable.

According to MPA, OCEANS-X provides secure system-to-system connectivity across the maritime ecosystem, allowing maritime companies and government agencies to exchange trusted data directly. This, in turn, enables integrated digital services for better service delivery, more efficient port operations, smoother trade flows, and stronger connectivity with global ports.

Organized by MPA, SMW 2026 runs from April 20-24 this year, bringing together more than 20,000 participants from nearly 80 countries and regions, including ministers, senior government officials, industry leaders and maritime professionals.

This year marks the SMW’s 20th edition. Under the theme “Actions Meet Ambition,” the event provides a platform for participants to exchange views on shared challenges facing international shipping and explore practical solutions. Key topics include maritime decarbonisation, digital transformation and AI, as well as cybersecurity, financing, and workforce transformation. ■
