ASUNCION, April 30 (Xinhua) — Paraguay will finalize its preparations for the FIFA World Cup with a friendly against Nicaragua, the Paraguayan Football Association said on Thursday.
The match will be played on June 5 at the Defensores del Chaco Stadium in the Paraguayan capital Asuncion, six days before the start of the tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
“The Albirroja will face Nicaragua in what will be the final test ahead of the World Cup,” the association said in a statement.
Paraguay will open its World Cup campaign against the United States on June 12 before facing Türkiye and Australia in Group D.
It will be the South American team’s first appearance in the tournament since the 2010 edition in South Africa, where it reached the quarterfinals for the first time. ■
