MADRID, April 29 (Xinhua) — Osasuna winger Victor Munoz’s hopes of earning a place in Spain’s World Cup squad have suffered a setback after he picked up a calf injury that will sideline him for at least two weeks.

The winger, who received his first Spain call-up in March and scored on his debut against Serbia, has impressed in his first La Liga season. His form has reportedly attracted transfer interest from FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, which still owns 50 percent of his rights.

His display for Spain further strengthened his case for a summer call-up, especially after Lamine Yamal’s season-ending hamstring injury, which could leave the Barcelona forward short of full fitness for Spain’s opening match in the United States.

Meanwhile, Nico Williams is still searching for form after a campaign disrupted by pelvic problems, while Alex Baena’s level has dipped since his move to Atletico Madrid from Villarreal last summer.

Munoz will now miss this weekend’s match against Barcelona, as well as upcoming games against Levante, Atletico Madrid and possibly Espanyol, fixtures that could have helped him further convince Spain coach Luis de la Fuente. ■
