DAR ES SALAAM, April 27 (Xinhua) — Tanzania’s mining sector has emerged as the leading recipient of foreign direct investment (FDI), accounting for nearly three-quarters of total capital invested in key sectors of the economy, a cabinet minister said on Monday.

Minister for Minerals Anthony Mavunde made the remarks when he presented his ministry’s 2026/2027 financial year budget speech in parliament in Dodoma, saying the mining sector continues to attract strong investor interest, supported by an enabling business environment established by the government.

According to the Tanzania Investment Report 2025, total investment in the mining sector rose to 9.79 billion U.S. dollars in 2024, up from 9.15 billion U.S. dollars in 2023 and 8.64 billion U.S. dollars in 2022, the minister told the House.

Mavunde said the favorable conditions have encouraged new investors to enter the market while prompting existing operators to expand projects and reinvest profits.

The government remains committed to strengthening the mining sector to sustain investment growth and maximize its contribution to the national economy, the minister added. ■
