KABUL, April 26 (Xinhua) — Construction has resumed on the remaining sections of the second lane of the Jalalabad-Torkham highway worth 13.26 million U.S. dollars, a key transport corridor in eastern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Public Works announced on Sunday.
According to the ministry, the highway, stretching approximately 73 kilometers, connects Jalalabad city in Nangarhar province with the strategic Torkham border crossing with neighboring Pakistan, one of the country’s busiest trade routes.
The construction is expected to be completed within 22 months, the ministry said.
Once finalized, the upgraded highway is anticipated to ease traffic congestion, enhance road safety, and significantly boost trade and transit between Afghanistan and Pakistan. ■
