BUENOS AIRES, April 26 (Xinhua) — Leader Independiente Rivadavia scored four second-half goals en route to a 5-1 home win over Gimnasia Mendoza in Argentina’s Apertura tournament on Sunday.

The visitors went ahead early through Blas Armoa’s strike but Sheyko Studer equalized before Fabrizio Sartori gave the hosts the lead just after halftime.

Gimnasia was reduced to 10 men on the hour when Franco Saavedra was shown a straight red card for violent conduct.

The hosts capitalized on their numerical advantage with Alex Arce, Leonard Costa and Leonel Bucca adding second-half goals as Alfredo Berti’s team secured its 10th win of the campaign.

Independiente Rivadavia leads Group B with 33 points, four ahead of second-placed River Plate. Gimnasia Mendoza is 12th in Group A with 16 points.

Elsewhere in Argentina’s top flight on Sunday, Newell’s Old Boys drew 1-1 at home to Instituto Cordoba, Gimnasia La Plata won 1-0 at Belgrano and Banfield drew 1-1 at Atletico Tucuman. ■
