LOME, April 25 (Xinhua) — The sixth International Book Fair of Lome was held on Friday at the Togolese Center for Exhibitions and Fairs (CETEF).

Organized by the Association of Writers of Togo (AET) and the literary club Le Litteraire in partnership with CETEF, the two-day event aims to promote the development of the country’s book industry and provide a platform for exchanges among stakeholders.

Supported by the Togo’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, the event features a delegation of authors from neighboring Benin, serving as a platform for exchanges among writers, publishers, booksellers, institutions and readers.

It also seeks to enhance the visibility of Togolese literary production and stimulate the still-developing local book market.

“The fair provides a platform bringing together all stakeholders of the book value chain,” said AET President Koumealo Anate.

Held under the theme “Writing the World to Come,” the 2026 edition explores the role of literature in the face of social, technological and cultural transformations through activities such as conferences, panel discussions, writing workshops, literary cafes, book signings and a special day dedicated to students.

A Chinese book exhibition stand was also set up during the fair. Chinese Ambassador to Togo Wang Min said China stands ready to work with partners to promote a culture of reading, using books as a bridge to enhance mutual understanding and deepen people-to-people exchanges between China and Africa. ■
