MOGADISHU, April 24 (Xinhua) — China and Somalia have inaugurated a new research center in Mogadishu to advance knowledge exchange and joint policy studies on Chinese modernization.

The Center for Research on Chinese Modernization, launched on Wednesday at the Diplomatic Institute of Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, is designed to strengthen Somalia’s institutional capacity through high-level policy research and specialized training for diplomats.

The ceremony was jointly presided over by Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Wang Yu and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hamza Haadow, along with other senior officials.

Wang extended warm congratulations on the center’s establishment and elaborated on the unique features and global significance of Chinese modernization, as well as key priorities of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan.

According to a statement from the Chinese embassy, Wang emphasized China’s readiness to partner with Somalia to implement the outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Beijing Summit, share governance expertise with Somalia and other African nations, and contribute to the modernization of the Global South.

Haadow said that the center represents the latest achievement in Somali-China relations and serves as a valuable platform for enhancing exchanges and mutual understanding.

He added that the ministry will facilitate the sustainable operation of the center, fostering mutual learning and strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries. Haadow also described the center’s establishment as a significant milestone in growing the Somalia-China partnership. ■
