KABUL, April 22 (Xinhua) — A four-day exhibition showcasing agricultural, livestock and handicrafts products opened in Afghanistan’s capital, Kabul, on Wednesday, the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock announced.

The fair aims to promote marketing, foster business relationships, and showcase domestic products to investors as well as local and international markets, according to a ministry statement.

The event features 260 booths, including 130 dedicated to female entrepreneurs, where farmers, livestock owners, and local businesspeople display their goods to support the development of these vital sectors, the statement added.

Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Ataullah Omari described the fair as a testament to Afghanistan’s progress in agriculture and livestock. He noted that, given the regional trade constraints, a valuable opportunity has emerged to strengthen domestic production, with ongoing efforts aimed at enabling Afghanistan to achieve self-sufficiency in food production.

“The exhibition is a marketing platform for finding customers, buying and selling products, and establishing connections,” said Yusra Osmani, one of the stall owners.

The Afghan government has been actively supporting and organizing such domestic product exhibitions across the impoverished country as part of its efforts to bolster agricultural products, enhance production capacity, encourage people to use domestic goods, and reduce reliance on imports. ■
