ACCRA, April 28 (Xinhua) — Officials have confirmed that a road accident in the Eastern Region of Ghana late Monday left at least seven people dead.
The accident involved a Hyundai minivan traveling from Nkawkaw to Atibie, both mountainous communities in the region.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said preliminary investigations suggest that the driver lost control after brake failure, plunging the vehicle into a nearby valley.
Deputy Regional GNFS spokesman Aaron Adu Ohemeng said the victims included six females and one male.
Bodies of the deceased were deposited at the mortuary of a local hospital at Nkawkaw, where the injured are also receiving treatment, as police continue investigations into the cause of the accident. ■
