AMMAN, April 26 (Xinhua) — Jordan and Kuwait on Sunday highlighted the importance of advancing diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran toward a sustainable resolution, stressing the need to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

The announcement came during talks between Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah in Amman, according to a joint statement.

The two officials emphasized that any progress following the ceasefire agreement must lead to a sustainable resolution that addresses long-standing tensions.

Both ministers called for strict adherence to international law, respect for state sovereignty, and the protection of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

During the meeting, Safadi reiterated Jordan’s condemnation of attacks targeting the sovereignty of Arab states and affirmed the kingdom’s full solidarity with Kuwait. The Kuwaiti minister, in turn, expressed Kuwait’s support for Jordan in confronting external threats.

Jordan and Kuwait also agreed to hold a new round of political consultations between their foreign ministries at the earliest date, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral coordination.

Regarding the Palestinian issue, the ministers stressed the urgency of stabilizing the situation in the Gaza Strip and ensuring the delivery of sustained humanitarian aid. They also called for an end to measures undermining the two-state solution, including settlement expansion and attempts to alter the status of holy sites in Jerusalem.

On Lebanon, the two sides underscored the importance of maintaining the ceasefire and supporting the Lebanese government’s efforts to assert full sovereignty and ensure state control over arms.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to maintain close coordination to promote regional peace and stability. ■
